Parts of DIRECTIVE 2001/37/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT were introduced to harmonise the presentation of health warnings on cigarette packs across the EU. On 1st October 2008 The Tobacco Products (Manufacture, Presentation and Sale) (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations 2007 comes into force in the UK. Regulation 7 of the Act introduces additional requirements for the health warnings that are printed on cigarette packs and other tobacco products. The new regulations call for 14 different pictorial warnings to be given on a prominent part of the pack. As in previous legislation the different warnings have to be equally across a batch.

EyeC has developed a new tool that can be used by printers of cigarette packaging or by incoming materials control of the tobacco company to ensure that the warnings meet the technical specifications and the frequency of appearance as required by the legislation. The Warning Text Combinations Tool runs on any of the Proofiler models and can scan sheets from A3 (297x432mm) to B0 (1414x1000mm) depending on the model. The standard Proofiler software can check for content and technical compliance of the artwork against a PDF proof. The Warning Text Combinations Tool monitors the frequency of each different warning and checks that these appear in line with the legislation.
