Proofiler Offline print inspection system
The EyeC Proofiler is an offline (sample) print inspection system that checks for print quality and accuracy on samples of your printed packaging material against the original proof . The samples can be a sheet of labels, cartons, foil, film or patient leaflets. It is an invaluable aid to press make ready as it greatly speeds up the time to check the first off and by checking against the customer proof you can be sure that everything is correct . It means that a changeover can be carried out faster because there is no danger that wrong plates have been inadvertently left on the press and not noticed. We recommend checking a complete repeat against the customer proof to ensure that not only is the press set up correctly with all correct plates and inks but that there is no damage on any part of the plates; if you only check one label or carton then a small hickey could be missed. EyeC has patented the method of checking multiple items against a single proof.
What kinds of defect does it find?
The Proofiler™, ProofBook™ and ProofRoller™ print comparators will catch content errors of any kind, such as:
• Missing parts of a character
• Filled in letters
• Missing accents or symbols
• Missing graphical elements
• Wrong barcodes
• Wrong colours
• Wrong font
Patient information leaflets printed in tiny fonts on both sides of very lightweight stock material represent the single most difficult challenge even for the most dedicated human proofreader. Any meaningful manual inspection may take hours to complete, especially if a variety of different languages is involved.
The EyeC Proofiler inspects such inserts in just minutes. Fully automatic, no manual overlay, no manual adjustment is needed. Unlike any other system on the market, it automatically suppresses artifacts resulting from the backside image bleeding through the stock material so it finds the tiniest deviations without overwhelming the operator with tons of pseudo-defects. Tiny fonts, any language, any alphabet, nothing gets by.
The Proofiler can check the print on an imposition sheet against a multi-page PDF proof, and the ProofBook can check each page after cutting against the customer proof.
The Proofiler is idea for checking any kind of label, self adhesive, linerless, clear wet glue etc. Labels are used in a host of different industries and applications. Some are very simple and low
cost, others may be very intricate and have a higher intrinsic value; in both cases the EyeC Proofiler™ can be a great aid to setting up the press and ensuring stringent quality control. The first impressions are checked against the customer’s signed-off proof. The press can then be run with
100% confidence that the job will be right first time.
Single cartons, sleeves or full press sheets can be inspected against a one-up PDF proof, even for press sheets with nested and butted items. Die lines and other non-printable
features included in the proof, such as Braille points, markings for (un)varnished areas and manufacturing instructions are detected and separated automatically.
If equipped with the respective options, the EyeC Proofiler™ will automatically identify and verify printed barcodes and embossed Braille against applicable standards, all within the same inspection cycle.
This can be checked in the same way with an appropriate sized scanner. To date we have supplied Proofiler systems with scan area up to 200 x 1400 cm. Handling such large sheets is facilitated by using a vacuum bed to hold the sheet whilst it is being scanned.
T
he print on a tube or canister is inspected using the ProofRoller. The can is simply placed onto the rollers with no adjustment required for different diameters (EyeC patent). The item is rotated and the print is checked against the customer proof. You can be certain it’s correct.
How do I choose the right scanner?
You don’t have to, we do it for you! Whether your sheet is A4, A3, A2, B2, B1 B0 or larger, EyeC has a Proofiler inspection system to handle it. We offer desktop scanners in A4, A3 and A2, large format pull-through scanners with 711 and 1064mm scanning widths, and floor standing large format scanners up to 2000 x 1400mm. This is not just a question of the scanner size but the quality of the scanner is extremely important; it has to have a suitable optical resolution, stability, reliability, speed and colour reproduction. We use scanners manufactured by well established industry leaders such as Epson, Colortrac and Cruse and all scanners used in our print inspection systems have been thoroughly tested to pass our demanding qualification regime.
A print inspection system also has to have the computing power to carry out the comparison of printed sheet to proof in a reasonable time. EyeC takes great care to specify an appropriate computer to meet these needs. Typically you can expect the comparator to scan and inspect a B1 printed sheet in 2-3 minutes. How does this compare to manual proof reading!
Because of the complexity of selecting the scanner, computer and other components EyeC supplies the complete print inspection system not just the software.
EyeC offers a number of options for its Proofiler system; these include Braille inspection, Barcode verification and testing of other codes such as Data Matrix and Databar (RSS)
